# Pinterest

How to connect Pinterest to Roivenue, what the default setup downloads, and how the figures are put together.

Pinterest Ads reports at ad group level. The Roivenue connector downloads daily impressions, clicks and spend, plus the conversions Pinterest attributes to your ads.

## Setting up the connector

### 1. Connect the account

Add a Pinterest connector in Roivenue and choose Connect to Pinterest. Roivenue sends you to Pinterest to sign in and approve access, then brings you back to Select Pinterest Account.

No keys to copy, and nothing to configure on the Pinterest side.

### Setup options

The connector asks a few questions when you create it. The defaults suit most accounts.

| Option | Default | What it does |
| ------------------------- | ---------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Pinterest Conversion Type | `CHECKOUT` | Which Pinterest conversion counts as your conversion. The alternatives are sign up and add to cart. |
| Conversion type name | `purchase` | What that conversion is called inside Roivenue. |

## What the default setup downloads

Four jobs. One brings impressions, clicks and spend per ad group and day, a second brings conversions and their value, and two more download the view and click feeds behind synthetic impressions.

### Where the values land

| Pinterest field | Roivenue column |
| ----------------------------------------------- | --------------- |
| `CAMPAIGN_NAME` | adCampaign |
| ad group `name` | adGroup |
| `IMPRESSION_1`, `IMPRESSION_2` | impressions |
| `TOTAL_CLICKTHROUGH` | clicks |
| `SPEND_IN_DOLLAR` | cost |
| `TOTAL_<conversion type>` | conversions |
| `TOTAL_<conversion type>_VALUE_IN_MICRO_DOLLAR` | conversionValue |

The attribution windows are fixed at 30 days for both clicks and views, and are not part of the connector setup. Pinterest conversions in Roivenue therefore always use a 30 day window.

Conversions are counted by conversion date rather than click date.

The jobs reprocess the last seven days on every run.

## Available columns

The table above is what the recommended template downloads. Every column this connector can bring back is listed on [Pinterest - Supported Columns](/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/data/connectors-overview/list-of-connectors/pinterest/pinterest-supported-columns.md).

Adding one means editing the connector in the Advanced Editor, which stops that connector receiving template updates.

## Synthetic impressions

Alongside the daily figures, this connector downloads a conversion feed that Roivenue uses to build synthetic impressions.

Ad platforms report conversions that Roivenue never saw as a web session, because of ad blockers, cross-device journeys or conversions uploaded from a CRM. Left alone those orders look like they came from nowhere, and paid media gets undercounted. The synthetic impression stands in for the missing visit so path analysis and attribution see a complete journey.

There is nothing to configure. It comes with the connector, and it is why the setup creates more than one job.

## How far back the data goes

The connector will request up to three years of history. How much arrives depends on what Pinterest holds for the account.

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>Conversion numbers do not match Pinterest Ads Manager</summary>

The connector always asks for a 30 day click and view window. If Ads Manager is set to a shorter window it will show fewer conversions.

<details>

<summary>Spend looks wrong by a large factor</summary>

Pinterest reports some values in micro dollars, a millionth of a dollar. Roivenue converts them on the way in, so if a figure looks out by a factor of a million it is worth raising rather than adjusting yourself.
