# Performance

Performance shows how your marketing develops over time. Compare up to six metrics in KPI cards, a chart and a table, and see whether a change in one metric affected another.

Performance is the page for questions about time. Did the new campaign raise revenue? Did cost per conversion grow when you increased the budget? Is the drop this week seasonal or something new? The page shows your key metrics day by day, week by week or month by month, so you can see when a change happened and what moved with it.

Use Performance when you want to:

* Check the main KPIs for a period at a glance.
* Evaluate the impact of a campaign change or a budget shift.
* Compare a period with the previous one.
* Find trends and outliers over time.

The page has four parts:

1. **KPI cards:** six headline metrics for the selected period.
2. **Metric selectors:** up to six metrics for the chart and the table.
3. **Chart:** the selected metrics over time.
4. **Table:** the same metrics by period, with heatmaps.

To open the page, go to **Reports → Performance** in the left navigation. The date range, the attribution model and the **Filter Panel** at the top apply to the whole page.

### How to read the KPI cards

The cards show the totals of six metrics for the selected date range, by default **Cost**, **Visits**, **Conversions**, **Net Revenue**, **Gross Profit** and **ROAS**. When you filter the page, for example to one site or campaign, the cards recalculate. When you compare periods, each card also shows the change against the compared period.

To change the cards, click ⋮ on any card and choose **Edit**. In **KPI Cards Settings**, pick the metric for each of the six cards. The ⋮ menu also has **Add To Dashboard**.

Changes to the cards apply only to the current view. To keep them, save the view with **Save** at the top of the page. See [Bookmarks](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/bookmarks).
{% endhint %}

### How to choose metrics for the chart and the table

The metric selectors under the cards set what the chart and the table show. You can select up to six metrics, from basic **Metrics** such as Cost or Conversions to calculated **KPIs** such as Cost per Conversion or ROAS.

* Click a selector and choose the metric. Click × to remove it.
* The checkbox next to a selector shows or hides the metric in the chart. The metric stays in the table.
* At the top of the metric list, turn on **Trend Line** to add a trend line to the chart, or **Heatmap** to colour the metric's column in the table.

Two or three metrics are usually enough to see a relationship, for example **Cost** with **Conversions** or **Cost** with **mROMI**.

### How to read the chart

The chart shows the selected metrics over time. The first metric is shown as bars, the other metrics as lines.

* Hover over the chart to see the exact values for a period.
* Click a metric in the legend to hide or show it.
* Zoom in on a part of the chart to see it in detail. **Reset Zoom** brings back the original date range.
* With **Compare** on, the compared period is shown as a dashed line.
* The download icon downloads the chart. **Add To Dashboard** adds it to a dashboard.

#### How to choose the granularity

The granularity in the date picker decides what one point in the chart and one row in the table is.

| Granularity | Use it for                                                                 |
| ----------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Daily** | Short-term changes, for example the first days after a campaign launch. |
| **Weekly** | Most analyses. Weeks remove weekday swings and still show changes quickly. |
| **Monthly** | Seasonality and long-term trends.                                          |

When daily data is noisy, add a **Trend Line** to see the direction.

### How to work with the table

The table shows one row per period and one column per selected metric.

* Click a column name to sort the table. Use the filter icon to filter it.
* Open the column menu to turn on **Heatmap for this column** or **Heatmap for all columns**, or to **Remove all heatmaps**. Heatmaps help you spot the highest and the lowest values.
* With **Compare** on, the table shows **Base Period** and **Compared Period** values. Hover over a difference to see the value of the compared period.
* **Export Table Data** downloads the table. The export states the date range used. **Add To Dashboard** adds the table to a dashboard.

***

### How to compare periods

Turn on **Compare** in the date picker and choose the period to compare with, for example the previous period or the same period last year. The KPI cards, the chart and the table then show both periods and the change. See [Date Picker](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/date-picker).

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** To evaluate a campaign change, compare equally long periods before and after the change, and use the same day of the week as the start. Comparing one long date range in a single chart is harder to read than two overlaid periods.
{% endhint %}

### How to save and share the view

* **Save** saves the page with its metrics, filters and date range as a bookmark. See [Bookmarks](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/bookmarks).
* **Share** copies a link to the current view.
* **Add To Dashboard** adds a KPI card, the chart or the table to a dashboard. See [Dashboard](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/dashboard).

#### FAQ

<details>

<summary>1. How do I evaluate the impact of a campaign change?</summary>

Set the date range to the period after the change and turn on **Compare** with the period before it. Check the change in the KPI cards first, then look at the chart to see when the change started. A heatmap in the table helps you find the periods with the biggest differences.

</details>

<details>

<summary>2. Why did my KPI cards or metrics reset?</summary>

Changes on the page apply only to the current view. Save the view with **Save** at the top of the page, so you can open it again from the menu.

</details>

<details>

<summary>3. Which metrics should I put together in the chart?</summary>

Combine a metric you control with a result, for example **Cost** with **Conversions** or **Net Revenue**. If the result follows the cost, the spend works. If the cost grows and the result stays flat, look closer at the channels with [Dimension Breakdown](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/reports/dimension-breakdown).

</details>

<details>

<summary>4. Why do the numbers change when I switch the attribution model?</summary>

Attributed metrics, such as Conversions, Net Revenue or ROAS, depend on the attribution model. Cost and Visits do not. See [Model Comparison](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/attribution/model-comparison).

</details>

<details>

<summary>5. How can I see performance by channel or campaign?</summary>

Performance shows the totals over time. To narrow it down, use the **Filter Panel**, for example to one platform. To see the channels or campaigns side by side, use [Dimension Breakdown](https://docs.roivenue.com/roivenue-resources/roivenue-training/roivenue-app/reports/dimension-breakdown).

</details>

<details>

<summary>6. Why can't I find a metric in the selector?</summary>

Some metrics are hidden on certain pages. Go to **Data → Metrics**, open the settings of the metric and check on which pages it is hidden.
