# Cost Per Thousand Impressions (CPT)

**Cost per thousand impressions** is a metric that tells you the average cost of your ad for a thousand [impressions](/roivenue-resources/glossary/marketing-and-financial-glossary/impressions.md).

As with [CPI](/roivenue-resources/glossary/marketing-and-financial-glossary/cost-per-impression-cpi.md), it is important to understand that an impression is not equal to a view. In general, one impression only means that the ad was loaded into the promoter’s website.

Also, both CPT and CPI are commonly used to measure the rate you would pay for an online banner ad campaign or other online advertising campaign. The meaning of CPT is the same as [CPI](/roivenue-resources/glossary/marketing-and-financial-glossary/cost-per-impression-cpi.md) -- the only difference is the number of [impressions](/roivenue-resources/glossary/marketing-and-financial-glossary/impressions.md).

Sometimes CPT is called CPM which stands for cost per mile. This has exactly the same meaning as CPT.
